Holiday travel at Logan Airport requires extreme advance planning, as both on-site garages and off-airport lots frequently reach 100% capacity. As of September 2026, the single most effective strategy is booking your parking well ahead, which locks Massport's $29/day advance rate while it lasts and gets you an off-airport quote before dynamic pricing climbs. During peak periods like Thanksgiving and Christmas, drive-up availability "zeroes out" across the entire East Boston and Revere corridor, leaving unprepared travelers with few options other than suburban Logan Express stations.
How Far in Advance Should You Book Holiday Parking at Logan?
Book Logan Airport parking well ahead of a holiday. Massport sells a limited number of advance spaces at $29 per day, and off-airport lots quote dynamically, so their price generally rises as your dates fill. During Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and Boston Marathon weekend, off-airport lots sell out completely 2–3 weeks before the holiday. Massport does not publish historical sell-out data, so we do not print day-by-day capacity claims. What Massport does say is that short-term parking is always available in its garages, that it runs parking overflow operations and directs drivers accordingly, and that the advance-reservation allocation is limited. Missing the booking window for holiday parking at BOS isn't just about paying more; it is about the risk of having no place to leave your vehicle. While off-airport lots in Revere and East Boston usually maintain some inventory up to 10 days before Christmas, the "Black Friday" of airport parking occurs during the three days preceding Thanksgiving. Off-airport lots sell their cheaper inventory first, so the longer you wait into a holiday period the more likely it is that only higher-priced spaces remain.

Booking ahead is what locks the lower rate; it does not guarantee a space once the limited allocation is gone.

Massport's published on-airport rates are the same all year: the terminal garages top out at $46 per day and the Economy Parking Garage at $37, holiday or not. What changes at a holiday is availability, and off-airport lots do not publish a daily rate at all — all three quote inside their own booking flow, so their holiday pricing is only visible once you enter dates. Pre-booking locks in the lower advance rate regardless of holiday surcharges applied to drive-up customers. Massport's own published figures are the reliable comparison: $29 per day on a limited advance reservation against a $46 per-day drive-up maximum in the terminal garages, or $37 at the Economy Parking Garage.

What Happens If Logan Airport Parking Fills Up?
When the garages are busy, Massport asks drivers to follow the posted message boards along the airport roadways for the most current parking conditions and instructions. Massport says short-term parking is always available in its garages, and that if every garage shows full when you arrive, parking staff will direct you to another on-airport garage or, if necessary, arrange valet parking. Massport publishes no count of the days its garages have been full, so we state none.
Massport's terminal-parking page says that when overflow parking is in effect, parking attendants will be present to direct and assist travelers. The Massport pages we read give no location, schedule or capacity for overflow parking, so we describe none. Follow the attendants and the posted signs rather than parking where you find space. An advance reservation is the one thing Massport describes as a guaranteed space.
For travelers coming from the South Shore, Logan Express Braintree is a Massport alternative with direct service to all of Boston Logan's terminals (lower level). Massport lists parking at its suburban Logan Express locations at $7 a day. It does not say how full those lots get, so check before you drive there.
Best Logan Parking Strategies for Each Holiday
Thanksgiving requires the earliest booking (3+ weeks ahead) because it overlaps with the highest annual travel volume at BOS. Christmas and New Year's require 2–3 weeks. Boston Marathon weekend (third Monday in April) catches many travelers off guard — book by mid-March. Booking ahead is still the right move in summer and at holidays, because it fixes your price and removes the search from your departure morning.
Thanksgiving Strategy
This is the "Full House" weekend. Book by Nov 1. If you miss the window, book a Park & Fly hotel room for Tuesday night just to secure the 7-day parking spot that comes with it. Avoid arriving at on-site garages after noon on Wednesday.
Christmas / NYE
Demand is steady for 14 days rather than a 3-day spike. Book by Dec 1. Favour a covered option to avoid returning to a car buried in New England snow: Massport's Economy Parking Garage is covered, and some off-airport operators offer covered tiers.
Marathon Weekend
Unique to Boston. Between 30,000 runners and 500,000 spectators, hotel parking and airport lots are constrained. Rates don't always spike, but volume is massive. Book by mid-March. Check for road closures if using off-airport lots in Revere.
